How to switch from Zenfolio to Chromafolio
Zenfolio-to-Chromafolio is one of the most common migrations we see. Long-time Zenfolio customers frequently have 100GB+ archives — our team helps coordinate bulk transfer for large catalogs.

Step-by-step migration
- 1
1. Request bulk export from Zenfolio
For catalogs under 50GB, use Zenfolio's self-serve export. For larger archives, open a support ticket with Zenfolio — they provide FTP credentials so you can pull everything at once.
- 2
2. Sign up for Chromafolio and brand your account
Create your free account, upload logo, pick brand colors, and set your portfolio subdomain (free on every plan).
- 3
3. Plan your upload in batches
For multi-year Zenfolio archives, upload by year or by client. Chromafolio's Free plan includes generous storage so you don't need to pre-pay for a large upload.
- 4
4. Preserve your URL structure
If you're on a custom domain, point it at Chromafolio and set up redirects per gallery to maintain SEO. Our team helps map the most-trafficked URLs so inbound links keep working.
- 5
5. Rebuild your portfolio page
Chromafolio's portfolio site is modern and editable — pick a layout, drop in your best work, and publish. Most photographers finish this in 30 minutes.
- 6
6. Migrate clients and cancel Zenfolio
Send a single email with your new gallery URLs and keep Zenfolio running for 60 days as a safety net. Once confirmed, cancel Zenfolio — Chromafolio's Free plan covers archival galleries indefinitely.
Things to watch out for
- · Zenfolio's legacy URL patterns are unusual — custom redirects are essential to avoid losing inbound links.
- · If your Zenfolio account is older than 10 years, some archived files may use deprecated formats — test-upload a sample before bulk transfer.
- · Zenfolio's print store is mature; plan to run it alongside Chromafolio until our 2026 print-store launch if print sales matter.
